I was looking at a photo of a historic renovation project that took place during my parents' era…the White House renovation under President Truman. It reminded me of something my parents taught me, which is that whenever you invest in a product that's important to your home, it's important to consider the maintenance…especially when you don't have a federally funded staff to look after things! To know this, you have to have an idea of what materials would be best for your purposes and then what the proper maintenance would be for getting the most from your investment. So this is best done as part of your selection process rather than after the purchase. These days, this is made so much easier with company websites…my parents didn't have this resource! So, for example, if you're looking for new flooring to redecorate, also look for information on the materials and the maintenance they require. Also, it's nice to see if a company cares enough to provide that kind of information, and for that matter, if they have a webpage for reviews, such as, for example again, Empire Flooring Reviews. So take this updated version of my parents' advice… know what you're buying and what it requires for good maintenance once you have it…and if a company is willing to help you to know that up front, that's probably a good sign!
