It is absolutely wonderful. The aroma reminds me of a bakery that specializes in fresh baked bread. The flavor is sweet (but not like a dessert bread) and very mild anise (as Lee Clayton Roper says, it does NOT taste like licorice). The texture is dense (for a yeast bread, but again, nothing like a dessert bread). I made this savory bread to go with golden beet soup and the two paired perfectly. In fact, I can’t think of anything that would go better with the soup than this bread. Good warm, cold, or toasted.
